A subsidiary of Conair, Babyliss Pro is a fantastic brand geared towards professionals and those who want to up their hair styling game. They create a range of different flat irons, blow dryers, straightening combs, and more.
Is Babyliss better than Chi? While it’s subjective, we’ll say that this brand has a more professional edge and creates products that cater more towards performance than affordability. While Chi is good, you often have to sacrifice some power to get their better prices.

Chi vs BabylissPro Flat Iron: Temperature
What do all flat iron hair straighteners have in common? They get hot. While knowing the max temperature the product is capable of important, you also have to know the extra features surrounding it. For example, in our GHD review we found that the flat iron used adaptive technology to maintain consistent temperatures.
So, how do these stack up? In one way they are very similar, but in another they are quite different.
Their max temperature is very close. Babyliss Pro has a max temperature of 450F while Chi Professional has a max temperature of 425F. Babyliss Pro is better here, but only by a little.
Now let’s go a little deeper.
Babyliss Professional Flat Iron has 50 different temperature settings. Chances are that you have a particular temp in mind. You’ll have no problem getting the right amount of heat with this flat iron.
Chi has an LCD display which is nice, but it has fewer settings. We did like the buttons on the handle for raising and decreasing the temperature, but we didn’t think these compared with what Babyliss was offering.
Both are good, but we found Babyliss Pro Titanium Flat Iron to be the better of the two.
Chi vs Babyliss Pro Flat Iron: Plate Width
Many people don’t pay attention to plate width, but it’s actually quite important. The most common size is 1 inch for most flat irons and that’s good for thinner, shorter hair, plus it gives you more control.
However, thicker sizes like 1.25 inch flat irons, 1.5 inch flat irons, or 2 inch flat irons have their own benefits. Thicker flat irons let you finish quicker, and they are better for thicker and longer hair. You’ll also find they tend to do better at transferring heat. You do lose some control though, so it’s a balancing act.
While we won’t say that one size is better than the other, we will look at what is available.
Both Babyliss Pro and Chi Professional offer 1 inch and 1.25 inch sizes. However, Babyliss goes further with 1.5 and 2 inch irons.
It comes down to your preference and what you like to use for your hair, but we give Babyliss the win here because it offers more sizes in general.

BabylissPro Flat Iron vs Chi: Material
On the outside you might notice that many hair straighteners look similar, but they are often made from very different materials. In fact, these two sound similar on paper, but they are actually quite different.
As the name suggests, Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Ultra-Thin Flat Iron is made from titanium with a ceramic core. Chi G2 Professional is made from titanium-infused ceramic. Both titanium and ceramic are used here, but in different ways.
The plates with Babyliss are made from titanium, which makes them very durable and great at transferring heat. Chi Professional is made primarily from ceramic with titanium added to it. This means it will heat up faster, but it tends to lose that heat and is more brittle when compared to Babyliss. But, it does make the product more affordable.
We have to go with Babyliss again here. While Chi is more affordable and good for many people, the plates aren’t as durable and don’t hold heat as well.

Babyliss Pro Flat Iron vs Chi: Comfort
The last thing you want is a cumbersome flat iron that’s difficult to hold and use. You’ll find that the best flat irons fit in the palm of your hand with ease. Not only that, but they should feel great as you hold them and use them.
Both of these are great here. They have comfortable handles that make it simple to straighten your hair. Not only that, but you’ll find that the handles give you enough grip even if you’re working through long, thick hair or doing intricate designs.
We did like Babyliss Pro a bit more, but they felt very similar. The one major advantage Babyliss had is that the handle was more heat resistant, which was great at the higher temperatures, but they are similar at the middle temperatures that most people use.
What is the Difference Between Babyliss Pro Flat Iron and Chi?
Curious about what is the difference between Chi and Babyliss Pro Flat Iron? While both look somewhat similar, we found there were many differences between them.
Check out our other Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium reviews here:

- Babyliss Pro Flat Iron vs T3 Lucea (Titanium vs Ceramic Flat Irons)
- Babyliss Pro Flat Iron vs Chi (Best Value Flat Iron)
- Babyliss Pro Flat Iron vs GHD (Best Smart Styling Iron)
While they each had a similar max temperature, with Babyliss Nano Titanium being 25F degrees hotter than Chi Professional G2, the major difference here was that Babyliss offered 50 temperature settings so you can easily get the temp you need. The plate widths are also similar, but Babyliss had more options in general.
It might sound like the materials are similar, titanium with a ceramic heating element vs titanium-infused ceramic, but we found that Babyliss was much better. While Chi Professional flat iron heated up faster, it also lost heat faster and the plates weren’t as durable. Lastly, we have comfort. The handles themselves felt similar, but once again Babyliss Pro Titanium pulled ahead because it was more heat resistant at the higher temperatures.
Final Thoughts
So, who wins in our Chi Professional vs Babyliss Pro review? Babyliss won in every category. Either from being outright better or having unique features you didn’t find with Chi, this titanium hair straightener was significantly better in so many ways. While you will save some money with Chi, we believe that Babyliss is the better value.
